Tata Motors India will finally reveal their much-awaited micro SUV, the Punch. Built on the ALFA-ARC platform, this sub-4 meter SUV will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and the Mahindra KUV 100.
Tata Motors is all set to unveil its new micro SUV, the Punch, tomorrow. Along with the official debut, even the bookings will commence. However, unofficial pre-bookings for the mini SUV have already been underway in select dealerships located in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The Tata Punch will slot in below the sub-compact SUV, the Nexon, and it will share the ALFA-ARC( Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform with the Altroz.

The Tata Punch will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, also available with the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. This engine produces 85 hp of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque, and comes mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT. There has been no confirmation as of yet if the Punch will get the 1.2-litre Revtron turbo engine from the Altroz iTurbo. However, the Punch will feature its engine start/stop functionality that will help achieve better fuel efficiency figures.
Since the Tata Punch shares the same ALFA architecture with the Altroz, it will also feature certain inherent features like the 90-degree opening door and a flat floor. Besides that, dimension-wise, the Punch SUV will sit higher with a ground clearance of 187 mm. And it will also be 29 mm taller than the Nexon, with 1,635 mm in height. But with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, the Tata Punch will be 48 mm shorter than the Nexon. Aside from that, the Punch measures 3,840 mm in length, and 1,822 mm in width, and will offer a boot capacity of 366 litres.

The Tata Punch will be available in a total of four trims with unique nomenclature: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative (To know more about the Punchs unique nomenclature, click here). The Punch will be available in a total of 12 colour schemes. The base Punch models can be had in White, Grey and Stonehenge colours. The top-spec models will come with six dual-tone colour options - White and Black, Black and Urban Bronze, Orange and Black, Blue and White, Grey and Black, and Stonehenge and Black.
From the outside, Tata has retained most of the exterior design from the concept HBX SUV, which was first showcased in the 2020 Auto Expo. The Punch has quite the rugged look which will feel fit in nicely in an off-road picturesque scenario. The huge wheel arches houses 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. The front fascia clearly resembles the new Harrier with the headlight unit stacked on the front bumper, while the sleek DRLs are located at the edge of the muscular hood. The mid-section of the front bumper also bear the familiar Tatas signature humanity line with the small-tri arrow detailing. The rear also features an LED-tail lamp, with the same tri-arrow design language also found in the Nexon.

The Tata Punch will also come packed in with a long list of features. The top-spec models will come with a floating, 7-inch Harman Touchscreen infotainment system that will support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Besides that, theres also the 7-inch semi-digital cluster also found in the Altroz. Some of the comfort features available with the Punch include automatic climate control, cruise control and IRA connected Car Technology, Automatic Projector Headlamps, push-button start/stop, and rain-sensing wipers. And given that Tata is already enjoying its newly proven safety stature, the Punch will also get safety features like Dual Front Airbags, Brake Sway Control (BSC), Electronic Brake Distribution, Stability Control and Rear Parking Camera.
As was mentioned before, since the sub-4 meter SUV, Punch will be slotted in below the Nexon its starting price will be lesser than the sub-compact Nexon. Going by that logic, we can expect the prices of the new Tata Punch to start from Rs 5.50 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 8 lakhs. In this price range, the Tata Punch will provide solid competition to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and Mahindra KUV 100, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger.
