Tata Motors has just launched its new 'micro SUV', the Punch. The new model has gone on sale at a starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh and has become a direct rival of the Maruti Ignis. In its carmaker's portfolio, the new model has been slotted between the Altroz and the Tiago NRG. Compared to the arch-rival Maruti Ignis, the Punch turns out to be Rs 39,000 costlier for the base model.

The Tata Punch has gone on sale in 4 trim levels that have a rather distinct nomenclature. These are - Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The new model can be booked at an authorized Tata Motors dealership for Rs 21,000. Also, there are three optional packs on offer - Rhythm, Dazzle and iRA. The latter is available only on the top-spec trim and brings in connected car technology to the vehicle.
Tata Punch Safety Features and Specs
The new model is the second Tata car to be underpinned by the ALFA-ARC platform that first debuted on the Altroz. Also, it has become the third model from the Indian carmaker to have scored a full 5-star adult protection rating at G-NCAP. The Tata Punch comes kitted out with a host of safety features including dual front airbags, cruise control, ABS with EBD, Cornering Stability Control (CSC), and Brake Sway Control. Also, the new car gets a puncture repair kit along with a full-sized spare wheel.
The Tata Punch shares its 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with the Tiago as well as the Altroz. This motor goes on to output a maximum power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. As per the carmaker, the Punch can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in just about 6.5 seconds while the sprint to 100 kmph is a lot slower at 16.5 seconds.
The transmission option on offer includes a 5-speed MT and an AMT. The new model has an unladen ground clearance of 187 mm and it comes with 16-inch alloy wheels on the top model. The new offering even has a boot space of 366-litre.

Colours
The Tata Punch is available in 7 colours - Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Calypso Red, Tropical Mist and Tornado Blue. The top-end Creative trim is on sale only in dual-tone options with Black and White roof options.
