Tata Motors has just taken the covers off its new 'micro SUV', the Punch. The new model will go on sale later this month and will lock horns with the Maruti Ignis. The Punch will be slotted between the Altroz and the Tiago NRG, and is basically a B1-segment offering that combines the practicality of a hatchback with the ruggedness of a small SUV.
The new model will be available in 4 trims - Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. Bookings for the new model are open at all authorized dealerships and on the carmaker's official website for Rs 21,000. Additionally, buyers of the new model can personalize their car thru two accessories packages - Rhythm and Dazzle.

In the words of Tata Motors, the Punch offers a commanding view of the road, high ground clearance, spaciousness and comfort for all passengers, industry-leading agility and performance to take on all terrains. True to the B-segment offerings, the Punch measures less than 4-metre but, as per the carmaker, carries the 'Tata SUV DNA.' All Tata SUVs have been designed keeping in mind four key pillars - Design, Performance, Spaciousness and Absolute Safety. The Punch, which is underpinned by the ALFA-ARC that debuted on the Altroz, promises to offer all the key capabilities of a true SUV.
Tata Punch Specifications & Features
The Tata Punch offers 187 mm unladen ground clearance, while its higher variants ride on 16-inch alloy wheels. Even the base model features 15-inch steel wheels shod with 185/70-section tires. Furthermore, the new offering provides users with 366-litre of boot space along with 25 storage spaces strewn across the cabin. Powering the new model is a 1.2-litre REVOTRON petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. This motor is capable of helping the Punch attain a speed of 60 kmph from standstill in just 6.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the 0-100 kmph sprint can be done in 16.5 seconds.

There will be two transmission options on offer - a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The latter has been optimized with altitude-specific maps for optimum performance at varying altitudes.
Also, the new model comes with idle-start-stop function to further optimize fuel efficiency. The standard safety features on offer include Dual airbags, seat belts with pre-tensioners, ABS with EBD, Cornering Stability Control, and a segment-first Brake Sway Control. Another highlight here is that the Punch comes with a full-sized spare wheel and even a puncture repair kit on all the variants.

Tata Punch Colours
The Tata Punch will be available in 7 colour options - Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Calypso Red, Tropical Mist and Tornado Blue. However, please note that the availability of these colours will vary from one trim level to another. The top-end Creative trim, however, will offer dual-tone options with Black and White roof options.
If the carmaker is to be believed, the Tata Punch has been extensively tested on various terrains, ranging from harsh conditions of Rajasthan to very challenging environment of Ladakh. In fact, Tata Motors has announced that total testing of 2 million kilometres has taken place through 150 prototypes.
