Tata has updated the features list and the software of the premium mid-size SUV, the Safari. Will this help it in the competition?
The Safari and Harrier have been two of the most exciting launches from Tata Motors India. However, their viability is being shrouded by the popularity of new and exciting SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700, and the Hyundai Alcazar. So, in order to catch up with the competition and to give customers a sense of owning a premium SUV, Tata Motors India has updated the features list and software of the Safari. But most of the updates are limited to the top-spec model of the midsize SUV.
To start off with the most critical features update is the addition of a wireless charging pad, that is placed inside a cubby hole in front of the gear shifter in the centre console. As far as its software update is concerned, the Safari now gets a wireless Android Auto, along with a wifi connection. The infotainment display also shows the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the cabin air. To further improve the cabin air, theres also an air purifier available. These updates will certainly increase the price tag, but that has not been confirmed yet.

This is not the first time, that Tata has updated the features list. Before the launch of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata had updated the features list and introduced a new Gold edition as well. Then, Tata had restricted the updates to the Safaris mid-spec XT and top-spec XZ/XZA variants. The updates also came with a price increase of Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 12,000.
However, the Tata Safaris list of premium features is quite utilitarian as well. This includes an 8.8-inch touch screen infotainment system that also gets an IRA connected suite, along with 9-JBL speakers. The drivers seat is 6-way power-adjustable, and a panoramic sunroof is available with mid-spec and top-spec models. Some of the other notable features include dual-zone climate control, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and mood lighting for the cabin.

Mechanically, the Tata Safari continues to be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 170 Ps@3750 rpm, and 350 Nm of torque@ 1750-2500 rpm. This unit comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission system. So, what do you think about these features updates in the Tata Safari?
