Tata Tiago CNG AMT And Tigor CNG AMT: Teaser Unveiled

Both of these cars, Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor, currently come equipped with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, NA Revotron petrol engine that churns out 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and an AMT unit. The CNG variant, on the other hand, delivers slightly reduced power at 73.5bhp and 95Nm of torque, and it is exclusively available with a five-speed manual transmission. Both powertrains have been updated to comply with the RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.

It's worth noting that the CNG automatic variant might experience a slight dip in fuel efficiency compared to its manual counterpart due to the reduced output in CNG mode.

In terms of looks and features, there won't be any changes to the exterior design or interior features at the time of launch. The cars will retain their familiar cabin setup, featuring automatic air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment system, a semi-digital driver display, and an 8-speaker sound system. Safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS and EBD, TPMS, and a rear parking camera will continue to be part of the package. Additionally, both models will retain Tata's twin-cylinder technology, ensuring ample boot space.

The Tata Tiago CNG, priced from Rs 6.55 lakh, and the Tigor CNG, starting at Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom), might see an additional cost of around Rs 60,000 for their upcoming AMT variants compared to the manual versions.

Verdict

Tata's move to introduce CNG automatic variants is a commendable step in enhancing fuel efficiency. While the marginal drop in efficiency is expected, the overall value proposition, coupled with familiar design and features, makes these models an attractive choice in the CNG segment. Currently, the Tiago CNG competes with models like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, Wagon R CNG, and Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG. On the other hand, the Tigor CNG faces competition from the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG in its category.
