Tata has finally launched the Tiago NRG at a staggering price of Rs 6.57 lakh for the MT and Rs 7.09 lakh for the AMT version. The NRG is a derivative of Tiago itself but now looks more rugged, packs in an additional height and is costlier by Rs 13,000 when compared with XZ+ Dual Tone. In this comparison, we compare Tata Tiago NRG vs Tiago XZ+ Dual Tone and share our opinions as to which one will be a better buy.

From the table above, it is clear that the Tiago NRG is longer than Tiago by 37 mm, taller than 2 mm and has a good 11 mm of additional ground clearance. The width and wheelbase of both the cars sticks to 1677 mm and 2400 mm respectively. The fuel tank capacity sticks to 35 litres while boot space is measured at 242 litres for both the cars.
Tata Tiago NRG and Tiago XZ+ Engine Option
Unlike the dimensions, the engine option for both the cars remains the same. They both get powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder BS6 compliant petrol unit. This unit generates as much as 86 PS at 6000 RPM with a peak torque of 113 Nm at 3300 RPM. This engine gets mted to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional AMT unit.
The ARAI certified mileage for the NRG sticks to 20.9 kmpl for both stick shift and AMT version while for the Tiago, it is 19.8 kmpl for the MT. The AMT unit of Tiago delivers an ARAI certified mileage of 23.84 kmpl. This mileage will be a different in real-world conditions and it also depends on one's driving pattern.
Tyre Options
If you're picking the Tiago XZ+ then you will get 15-inch alloy wheels but the same cannot be said for the NRG edition. The latter comes with 15-inch hyperstyle wheels that are basically steel wheels only. The size for both the tyres stick to 175/60 R15.

Tata Tiago NRG is equipped with power folding ORVMs with integrated indicators, all four-power windows, height adjustable drivers seat, cooled glovebox, tilt adjustable steering wheel, 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-function steering wheel, push button start/stop, rear camera and among others.
The Tiago XZ+ continues with all the features present above but misses out on the engine start/stop button. It gets an automatic climate control over the manual HVAC function found in the NRG along with dual-tone black and grey interior colour scheme. If you pick the dual-tone version of the XZ+ then you get contrast black colour treatment on the roof and ORVMs. The same can be found on the NRG as well. Additionally, the NRG also gets black door handles as opposed to body coloured ones found in Tiago XZ+.
Safety and Manufacturer Warranty
Both the cars are offered with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, high-speed alert system, puncture repair kit, front seat belt reminder and more. Both the cars get Global NCAP rating of 4-stars. The manufacturer warranty for both the cars sticks to 2 years or 75,000 km whichever comes at the earliest.
