Honda Elevate-based EV: Details
Honda obviously is staying tight-lipped about the upcoming EV which will be based on the Elevate. The car maker is considering the upcoming CAFE 3 norms when it comes to its electrification strategy, and thus it has decided that the Elevate will get an all-electric derivative, skipping the hybrid phase entirely. However, that does not mean there won't be other hybrid cars from Honda in the future.

The car maker is currently expanding and re-tooling parts of its plant in Rajasthan to accomodate EV manufacturing, and the Elevate-based EV will be produced there. This car will also be exported to many other markets, as Honda plans to use India as a manufacturing and exports hub.
As for the specifications, it is difficult to comment anything right now. However, we can expect Honda to feature battery packs between 50 to 60 kWh, and possibly targeting range figures of 500-600km on a single charge. Given that it will be based on the Elevate's platform, we can expect the car retain the familiar silhouette, but with EV-specific element for better differentiation. We can also expect features such as Level 2 ADAS to be offered.
The upcoming Elevate-based EV will compete against the Tata Curvv EV, the MG ZS EV, Hyundai's electric Creta, the EV version of the Mahindra XUV700, Maruti e Vitara and Toyota's derivative of it.
Verdict
Honda entered the mid-size SUV segment quite late, and it might be headed down the same path when it comes to the EV market. However, there is a lot of action to be expected in that segment in the future, and Honda might do well enough to be prepared.
