Royal Enfield Himalayan Chassis Crack Issue - Reason and Solution
The chassis cracking issue surfaced recently on the brand-new Himalayan bikes. Two instances in a difference of just a few days surfaced online. Both motorcycles had undergone a chassis failure above the engine. The clueless owners used social media to find the solution and the help required. Considering the fact that a similar issue was faced by the gen-1 Himalayan as well, the company acted swiftly. Both of the bikes have been examined closely and now the reason is out.
As per Royal Enfield, these cracks and nut bolts loosening took place due to the fitment of aftermarket crash guards. The company has claimed that a few aftermarket parts from the manufacturers like Zana, don't comply with the engineering requirement of the bike. The new Himalayan is based on the Sherpa 450 platform, under which the engine itself acts as a stress member of the chassis. These aftermarket crash guards lead to uneven stress production inside the T-joint and the chassis. Moreover, the incorrect torque settings on these guards induce further stress.
So, what's the solution? Well, as per our expertise, we suggest opting only for OEM accessories. While some cheap aftermarket parts may attract you easily, the OEM accessories are worth every penny. These parts are well-researched and tested before being offered as options. Additionally, the Himalayan already comes with the options of different types of crash guards.

Verdict
Every product before going on sale is rigorously tested for failures, but, no product is safe-proof. Which means, that the break downs can occur on any bike or car. It is the solution and the ease of rectification that makes a product successful. The Himalayan is one such story in itself. So, if you've brought a new Himalayan or planning to buy one soon; we recommend you to go ahead without worrying about the chassis and its reliability.
