Toyota unveiled its innovative Fortuner Flexy Fuel prototype at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) at the Indonesia Convention Exchange (ICE) BSD city. Among the showcased prototypes, the Fortuner Flexy Fuel stood out as a highlight, capturing attention with its eco-friendly feature. While Indian vehicles now adhere to the BS6 P2 emission norms and are E20 fuel compatible, the transformation to 100% Ethanol operation necessitates significant engine and fuel system modifications. Thanks to Ethanol's moisture-retaining properties, which leads to internal corrosion.
Meanwhile, Toyota's engineering team undertook significant customization of the existing 2TR FE 2.7L petrol engine to adapt it for 100% Ethanol compatibility. This involves meticulous adjustments to timing, tuning, the fuel intake system, fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel tank, engine head, spark plugs, and numerous other components.
Notably, this test mule's notable accomplishment lies in its operation on 100% Bioethanol a purer form of alcohol boasting a higher Octane number and fewer pollutants.
2024 Toyota Fortuner Mild-Hybrid Confirmed
Just a while ago, Toyota confirmed that the 2024 Fortuner is going to be a mild-hybrid powered vehicle. While this helps in clearing emission norms, the hybrid tech does offer a bit extra mileage.
