Toyota Resumes Dispatches Of Innova Crysta, Fortune, Hilux
Shipments for the models were halted on January 29, 2024, following the detection of anomalies in the certification testing for diesel engine horsepower. Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) disclosed that it had tasked Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) with the development of its diesel engines. On that day, TICO informed Toyota that a special investigation committee, appointed to investigate possible certification irregularities, confirmed discrepancies during the certification testing for the horsepower output of three diesel engines commissioned by Toyota to TICO.
Concerns regarding diesel engine compliance with regulations have been addressed, reassuring fans and clearing the path for sales to resume. These ten affected engine models, six in Japan and three in India, contribute significantly to TKM's sales, with the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux alone responsible for nearly a third of their total volume

Why Were Dispatches Halted?
The irregularities pertain to the smoothing of power and torque curves, without resulting in any overstatements or misrepresentations regarding horsepower, torque, or other powertrain-related metrics. As per dome sources, these irregularities do not affect the emissions or safety of the vehicles in question.
Despite the suspension of shipments, the company continued production and accepted orders for the Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux. For vehicles already dispatched but pending delivery, the company made efforts to provide customers with detailed explanations of the situation. However, registration and deliveries are now underway after the issue is resolved.
Verdict
The underlying issue is now over! Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux dispatches resume across India. Compliance concerns are cleared, ensuring these popular SUVs hit the road again. With ten affected engines globally, including three in India, and representing a significant chunk of TKM's sales, this restart is good news for both the company and waiting customers
