- Bookings to commence shortly before

Maruti Ertiga-based Toyota Rumion is set to launch by the end of August 2023. The bookings of the same will begin shortly, and reports suggest the deliveries will begin as early as September. The same spec MPV is currently on sale in international markets as well. However, it will carry a rich price tag when compared to Ertiga.
Let's look at the details of this imminent launch and the MPV in talks itself
Toyota Rumion: The Differentiating Style Cues
Rumion is being built and supplied by the Maruti Suzuki itself and also happens to be the 4th shared model between the two carmakers. Moreover, like the Maruti Invicto and Toyota Glanza, it has certain design cues for a clear distinction. Firstly, the front grille, which as it stands, carries a brand-specific identity design along with the Toyota logo sitting symmetrically.
Additionally, refreshed bumper along with tweaked fog lamp housing, plus a new alloy wheel design update is incorporated.

Interiors
The interior of the Rumion mirrors that of the Ertiga. It includes a 7-seat layout, a 7-inch touchscreen offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an Arkamys sound system, and automatic climate control. In the safety department, it offers four airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, and seat belt reminders for all seating positions.
While the rebadged products always shared the exact features list, the Maruti Invicto was an exception. It missed out on things like ADAS, Ottoman functions for the second-row captain seats, and more to keep the costs in check.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the Rumion features the identical 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-liter petrol engine found in the Ertiga. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, it offers a factory-fitted CNG kit, delivering 88hp and 121.5Nm in CNG mode and 101hp and 136Nm in petrol mode. Toyota asserts that the Rumion petrol achieves a fuel efficiency of up to 20.51kpl. Meanwhile, the CNG version boasts a mileage of 26.11km/kg.
Expected Price And Rivals
Upon its release, the Rumion will compete with contenders like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (priced between Rs 8.64 lakh and Rs 13.08 lakh), the Maruti Suzuki XL6, and the Kia Carens. Anticipate the Rumion's price to sit at a slight premium, likely around Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 above its counterparts.
Verdict
With the launch of Toyota Rumion, it will sit in a highly contested segment with rivals that are already doing good numbers. However, with its existing lineage, it is expected to take-off right from the start, as it has been the case for previous rebadged projects.
