Toyota Urban Cruiser has become the talk of the automotive industry ever since Toyota announced that they are also thinking to enter the compact SUV segment with the rebadged Brezza. The Toyota-Maruti alliance allows the Japanese carmaker to borrow cars like Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga and Brezza so it expands its market in India. We have already seen how the Toyota Glanza turned out and honestly, we wished Toyota had done more than just rebadging. Now, with the Urban Cruiser, Toyota has played well with the looks and does it resemble the Maruti Brezza? Let's find that out!
In terms of design, Toyota Urban Cruiser is not just a rebadged version of Brezza. In fact, the Japanese automaker has played well with the styling and if you observe closely then it borrows the front design from the mighty Fortuner. Please note, when it comes to cars like Innova and Fortuner, Toyota is unbeatable and with the launch of Urban Cruiser, hope it meets the market requirement.
Toyota has improved with the looks of Urban Cruiser. The exclusive image by Autocar India tells us how the upcoming SUV will look like. At the front, it retains the projector headlights with LED DRLs which turn into indicators like seen on the Brezza. The skid plates at the front are also changed from the Brezza.

Now for the changes, notice the reworked design of the two-slat grille with Toyota badging in the middle. The inspiration is taken from the Fortuner. The fog light housing has been changed too and needless to say, it resembles just like its older sibling.
The side profile more or less remains the same except for the different alloy wheels design. We expect the wheel size to remain constant that is 215/60 R16. As of now, no new image of the rear profile is out but we expect it will carry minimal changes too. The reworked bumpers, taillights and exhaust tips are some changes we expect.
Under the hood, the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser will continue to be offered in a sole 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. This unit makes as much as 103 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. The transmission includes a 5-speed manual as standard and an optional 4-speed torque converter unit. What remains to be seen if Toyota will launch the mild-hybrid system in the manual variant to further differentiate itself from the Brezza mechanically.

Coming to the prices then we expect it will continue to come in two variants G and V like we have seen in the Glanza. Also, the expected prices are from Rs 8.30 lakh and go up to Rs 11.31 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Once launched it will rival with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Kia Sonet. The bookings for the same will open on August 22, 2020.
