Bajaj Pulsar NS 400: Design and Features
As visible in the photos, the 400cc Pulsar boasts an aggressive design. The red colour bike has a new headlight with sharp LED DRLs and a projector setup. This is unique to it as we've not seen this headlight design on any Bajaj bike until now. Moreover, the front USD forks in golden colour look bulky and give it a butch appeal. The front fender has a sort of carbon fiber finish but it is plastic.
The fuel tank design, extended tank shrouds, and the aluminium finish subframe are the key highlights of the side profile. The handlebar is tubular, thus it'll give a rather comfortable posture to ride. The levers are adjustable and we suspect that the switchgear will also be new. The digital instrument console, not visible in the photos, will most probably be a TFT unit. Expect features like Bluetooth, navigation, SMS/call alerts, ride modes, ABS modes, traction control, etc., to be offered as standard.
While the rear design is not visible in the leaked photos, the spilt seats with split pillion grab rails mimic the other Pulsar NS bikes. The taillight will also be a new LED unit which will rather look like an evolved version of the Pulsar NS200 design. Coming to the hardware, the bike has USD front suspension, an adjustable monoshock at the rear, and gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels. It also has disc brakes which will come with a dual-channel ABS as a standard offering.
Engine, Rivals, Price, Launch Date
Powering the biggest-ever Pulsar will be a 400cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. We suspect that it'll be sourced from the latest-gen KTM 390 Duke or the Triumph Speed 400 sibling bikes. As Bajaj has access to both brands in manufacturing, a lot of part-sharing will be inevitable. To mate this power, a 6-speed transmission with a slipper-assist clutch will also be offered.
But, if Bajaj plans to introduce this bike at an aggressive price tag, there is a possibility that it could use the 373cc engine from the Dominar 400. If so, the bike will easily undercut its rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 310 in pricing. We suspect that Bajaj has plans to blow the minds of the audience by pricing it below the Rs 2 lakh mark. The bike will officially be revealed on May 3 in Pune, where its pricing and other details will surface clearly.
