Revealed in the latest press conference, the new compact SUV will target the rural markets of India. As seen in the latest spy shot, the rear profile looks similar to the Kushaq SUV. In fact, it'll be based on Kushaq's MQB-A0-IN platform. This platform will be 85mm shorter than the Kushaq to keep it under the 4-meter mark; for tax savings.

While the major details are still hidden, the rear design will get a wraparound LED taillight setup. The test mule also has a roof rail fitted along with a spoiler-mounted brake lamp. The front design will be inspired by the Kushaq with split LED headlights, a chrome grille, and the Skoda's iconic design language for the bonnet and body lines.

Skoda plans to equip it with the 1.0-lt, TSI petrol engine that is also offered on the Slavia sedan. This engine might be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. As the main target is tier-2, tier-3, and rural markets, the service and showroom network will also be expanded soon for this specific model.

Skoda has already promised that it'll launch within the next year. This hints that it might debut before or around the upcoming January 2025. The main rivals of it will be the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue. We expect the pricing for it will range between Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

Verdict

Skoda's Indian plans are serious with its India 2.0 strategy. The new compact SUV will be a major step in creating a strong domestic market for the brand. Skoda cars are loved by enthusiasts for their fun-to-drive setup and safe build quality. This new SUV will house the same traits from its elder siblings.
