Tata Punch EV - Design, Features, Launch Details

A few weeks back, the spy shots of a test mule of Punch EV went viral. Those screenshots showed that the Punch EV will be based on the ALFA architecture as the standard Punch. Also, the glimpse of the interiors showed a new dashboard and a new two-spoke steering wheel with a digital screen fitted on it. This hints that the exteriors will be more or less the same as the EV Punch as the ICE version. But, the interiors will get more features and a better design. We suspect that Tata will offer a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel with a digital logo, & a new digital cockpit as well. The space inside the cabin might not improve much but it'll offer a new flair to its customers for sure.

Underneath the body shell, it'll get a Ziptron tech featuring a battery & electric motor. There are no details available about this powertrain but we suspect that it can be similar to the Tiago EV. However, to accommodate the bigger size and to offer more range, the size of the battery pack shall be bigger. Also, the performance of the Punch EV will be taken care of by the Ziptron tech which will offer customers multiple driving modes to choose from, on the go. It'll be a liquid-cooled battery pack like its other EV siblings from the Tata brand, for example, Nexon EV.
Verdict
Tata Punch has created a new segment of cars in India. Recently, Hyundai launched its Exter to compete with it. But, to fight back, Tata Punch CNG is on its way. To go further and expand the Punch brand, an EV iteration would be perfect. Online rumours are hinting that there will be multiple new SUV launches by Tata in the upcoming festive season. One of these will be the Punch EV. Its pricing will undercut Nexon by at least Rs 1.5 lakh.
