Volkswagen Tayron: What Is It?
The Tayron has been around since 2018, and while VW has pushed it mainly towards the Chinese market before, this time the Tayron nameplate is going global. The Tayron slots in between the Tiguan and the Touareg, and in the Indian context of things, it rivals the Skoda Kodiaq and the Jeep Meridian.

Volkswagen Tayron: Design
The Tayron looks similar to the new-generation Tiguan, but given its seven-seater capabilities, it measures 4721mm in length, which is 241mm longer than the new Tiguan, which is also yet to be launched here. The Tayron gets large vents up front, along with stylish HD matrix headlights with integrated DRLs, and an illuminated VW badge right at the nose.
The profile of the Tayron aligns with the modern design language of other VWs in the lineup, and at the rear, you get connected LED tail lights, but with a different design treatment compared to the new Tiguan. There is a chrome strip running underneath the tailgate, along with black fibre treatment.
Volkswagen Tayron Interiors & Features
The interiors of the Tayron are similar to what one can see on its global lineup. There is a 12.9-inch infotainment touch screen and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. You also get a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration, head-up display, a steering-column mounted gear changer, 10-colur ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon sound system, 14-step power adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation function, and a heated steering wheel among other things.

Volkswagen Tayron Powertrains
VW is offering the Tayron with multiple powertrain options; a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, two 2.0-litre diesels, two 2.0-litre petrols, and two plug-in hybrid variants. Both the 2.0-litre petrol engines, and the more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine come equipped with VW's all-wheel drive system, known as 4MOTION, as standard. All other powertrains continue to be front-wheel driven.
These powertrains are also paired to various automatic transmissions; the plug-in hybrids get a 6-speed eDSG, while the other powertrains come with a 7-speed DSG unit.
Verdict
At the moment, there is no official announcement regarding Volkswagen Tayron's launch. However, the German carmaker could possibly bring in the Tayron when it's time to replace the current Tiguan. The Tayron comes with both 5-seater and 7-seater possibilities, and while you can forget about getting a diesel, the 2.0-litre TSI with all-wheel drive is what can be expected here.
