- Tata Motors showcased the Punch iCNG with some new updates & features at the 2023 auto expo
- The regular Punch petrol is also expected to receive these updates and feature additions soon
- New features will significantly bump up the prices of Punch
In the recently concluded 2023 auto expo, Tata Motors showcased the iCNG variant of its micro SUV Punch. Apart from having the CNG-specific changes, the Punch iCNG had some new features like a smart voice-controlled sunroof, shark fin antenna, and 6 airbags. Tata Motors is expected to soon introduce these additional features in the Punch petrol as well. Here are the details.
Tata Punch With A Sunroof:
Tata Punch has been doing quite good sales numbers since its launch in October 2021. Though it gets some feel-good features like auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, traction pro mode, cruise control, etc, it still lacks many features that other cars from the same segment offer. Cars like Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx have an advantage over Punch when it comes to features. While Magnite gets some advanced features like 360 degrees surround-view camera and connected car tech with smartwatch integration, the Kiger gets features like a card key with proximity lock/unlock, wireless charging, etc. The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx also brings in hi-tech features like HUD (Heads Up Display with Navigation), Paddle Shifters, etc. However, none of these cars offer a sunroof. Here, Tata has played well by deciding to offer a feature that most Indians like and demand. Moreover, the sunroof offered by Tata Punch is a smart one that can be controlled through voice commands also.
Other New Additions In Tata Punch:
Apart from the smart sunroof, the Tata Punch might soon be equipped with 6 airbags. On the exterior, the current old-school antenna present on the Punch could get replaced by a modern-looking shark fin antenna. Tata could also add some active safety tech like ESP, Traction Control, Hill Hold Assist, etc in the updated micro SUV. Already known for being one of the safest cars in India with a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, the addition of 6 airbags will make Punch in line with the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx that gets 6 airbags on its top trim.

Verdict: Adding 6 airbags will make Punch compliant with the latest government regulation slated to be effective from October 2023. Also, the addition of features like a sunroof will make Punch more competitive in the segment & fight its rivals more effectively.
