The new Kodiaq has grown in terms of length, and it looks fairly different from the car it replaces. It misses out on ADAS and does not retain the adaptive dampers, but it gains many more new features and a completely new interior that feels plush and premium for its price. The fact that it comes as a seven-seater helps its case further.

• What we admire in this car

  • The new Kodiaq has a unique way of using modern design trends, such as the integrated light bar within the grille
  • The interiors of the new Kodiaq are properly plush and premium
  • Its ability to seat seven people will be beneficial for many buyers
  • Paddle shifters help in getting more hands-on with the car
  • It remains stable and pliant with its 18-inch wheels, which offer a good ride quality
  • The boot space is massive after folding the second and third row seats, which can be folded in splits based on requirements

• What could have been better

  • The design has become more MPV-like than an SUV
  • No ADAS features on offer
  • Adaptive dampers have not been retained
  • A petrol engine isn’t the most efficient

Looks And Design 9

• The new Kodiaq has taken on a rounded, more MPV-ish silhouette, which makes it look quite different when compared to the outgoing car. It has grown in dimensions, now measuring 61mm longer than the outgoing car. However, the new Kodiaq retains the same 2,791mm wheelbase from before. 
• The new Kodiaq retains the trademark Skoda grille, but with an interesting twist; it comes with an integrated full-length light bar, which is probably Skoda’s own way of following modern design trends. The headlamp design remains familiar, with the projector placed below the main unit. 
• The 18-inch alloy rims look quite stylish, and at the rear, it gets sleek, C-shaped tail lights connected via a light strip. The tailgate also retains the Skoda badge lattering in the middle, typical of other Skoda cars in the lineup.

• The new Kodiaq retains the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol powertrain, but it has now been updated to produce more power. It now produces 201 bhp and 320Nm of torque, while paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The new Kodiaq was already a good performer at high speeds, and we can expect things to improve further. 
• The new Kodiaq also comes equipped with a 4x4 system, which should give buyers some confidence in case they want to do some light off-roading. However, buyers must remember not to take their cars to extreme situations and exercise caution.

Interiors And Features 9

• The new Kodiaq comes with a huge change in terms of the interiors and features. It gains a completely new layout, which is similar to that of the new Superb. It gets a dual-tone colour treatment, along with soft-touch treatment, and a 13-inch infotainment screen taking centre stage. 
• You will also notice a new dual-spoke steering wheel with the new Skoda lettering, along with a 10-inch instrument cluster, which also comes with an integrated navigation display. Furthermore, you will also notice a column-mounted gear selector stalk placed behind the steering wheel, similar to some high-end cars. 
• The base Sportline variant comes with power-adjustable front seats, while the L&K Sportline trim adds heating, ventilation, and massage functions. At the centre, the physical rotary dials for A/C controls will also be noticeable, and they come with an integrated display. 
• Some other features include a 13-speaker Canton sound system, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, parking assist, a wireless charging pad with cooling, 9 airbags, and sliding second-row seats, among many other things.

  It's the best 50 Lakhs can buy in India in 2023. After an year long evaluation of Audi Q3, GLA, X1 and Fortuner, I ended up choosing the Kodiaq for the practicality it offers & all the Skoda clever features. Comfortable cushy ride, great acceleration in sports mode and with the available torque, it's easy to maneuver during city drives. 5/7 seat configuration option makes it a very practical option for families. If you are not that bothered about the 3 logos which ends up getting you a smaller car at a higher price (in this price segment), then go for the Kodiaq.

  Priced very competitive in comparison to luxury SUVs, and offers loads of attractive gizmos. Loads of legroom for even the third row, any big guy can fit in the third row very easily. It is available in automatic transmission which is a good considering the slow indian traffic , a relief from the constant use of the clutch.

  Reliability is as good as any premium german built high end luxury segment car. Interior has premium looking finish and has a strong presence on the road. Sufficient power and torque to pull itself out of any situation.
