Toyota Taisor - Design
The design of the Taisor looks similar to the Maruti Fronx from some angles but boasts some design changes. The front profile of the Taisor gets a sleek LED DRL setup similar to the Urban Cruiser Hyryder along with a chrome strip joining both DRLs. The grille also looks similar to the Innova. The front also gets a redesigned bumper which gives it a different look. However, the Fronx & Taisor gets a similar three-pod LED headlamp setup.
On the sides, the Taisor gets an all-new spokes design for the 16-inch alloy wheels which gives it a different look from the side profile. Other elements on the side profile such as wheel arches and side cladding remain similar to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
At the rear, the profile is similar to the Fronx with a connected tail lamp design, but the lighting element design has a minor design difference. The Fronx gets a three-pod LED tail lamp similar to its front DRLs, on the other hand, the Taisor gets a C-shaped LED tail lamp.
Toyota Taisor - Interior & Features
The interior of the Taisor comes with a dual-tone colour treatment with Grey and Maroon colour on the dashboard and seat material. It gets soft-touch material on the door armrest, and fabric upholstery on the seats. The cabin of the Taisor is quite practical it offers good storage spaces. The door pads boast a decent-sized bottle holder which can easily hold a 1-liter water bottle, the center console gets two cup holders, an armrest, and a decent-sized glovebox. The seats are comfortable and offer good cushioning.
On the features front, the centre of the dashboard is adorned by a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment console, the Taisor also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets automatic climate control, wireless charging, an analog instrument console with MID, a 360-degree camera, and a head-up display, among other features. The rear row gets a 60:40 folding configuration, an all-3 three-point seatbelt, a Type A & Type C charging port, and a rear AC vent.
The Taisor misses on some features such as an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, cooled glove box among others. Also, the controls for the MID are given with two sticks on the instrument console, it would have been better if the controls were available on the steering wheel.

Toyota Taisor - Engine & Performance
The Urban Cruiser Taisor comes with three engine options: 1.2-litre NA petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox, a 1.2-litre CNG engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed torque converter AT gearbox.
The version we drove was the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed AT gearbox. The turbo petrol engine produces 99 bhp of power and 147 Nm of peak torque. The engine is quite responsive and offers good refinement considering a three-cylinder configuration. The initial pickup of the engine is good and it offers good low-end torque for your daily commutes in the city and traffic conditions. The creep function of the engine is tuned well. The peppy response of the engine while making quick maneuvers will keep you happy in the city as well as on highways. There are instances when you feel some turbo lag near 2,500 RPM but it is manageable considering the size of the engine. The torque converter is not the smoothest in the segment but it does offer quick and smooth gear shifts.
The AT gearbox also comes with a manual mode which helps you get full control. The manual gearbox does not shift automatically and pulls till the rev-limiter. The manual mode is further assisted by paddle shifters which helps in easy shift.
Toyota Taisor - Ride & Handling
The Taisor is a comfortable vehicle, it offers a planted ride on the tarmac as well as on some rough surfaces. The suspension feels a bit on the stiffer side if you are on low speed but as you gain speed it starts to become more comfortable. The suspension does feel busy at lower speeds but it does not become unsettled easily, if you are cautious of the potholes and breakers it takes them with ease.
The steering is well-balanced, providing good control. It doesnt feel too heavy or too light, maintaining an even weight that instills confidence when navigating corners.

Verdict
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor comes with a price tag of Rs 7.73 lakh (ex-showroom) which is around Rs 22,000 more expensive than the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. However, the turbo petrol offerings of both cars comes with a same price tag but the Fronx offer a more affordable Turbo variant priced at Rs 9.72 lakh (ex-showroom). The Taisor is made for people who want a different brand value and don't want to go for Maruti vehicle. Additionally, the Taisor comes with a 3-year or 1 lakh km warranty which is more than the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. With Toyota customers can expect good service experience and the Taisor boasts a lower waiting period compared to Fronx.
