It was March 16 last year when Hyundai launched the new 2020 Creta and within no time it went on to become the most selling mid-size SUV. The new Creta was launched just days before the lockdown and even then it continued to hold the highest record in sales.

The new Creta is available in three engine options - a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit and a more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol. The former two generates 113 bhp but the torque figures stick to 1 Nm and 250 Nm respectively.

It is the turbo petrol which generates 140 PS with a peak torque of 242 Nm. However, this engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox only and no manual transmission is on board. The 1.5L petrol is equipped with a 6-speed manual and an optional IVT while the 1.5L diesel gets a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual unit.
Since its launch last year, the company has sold 1.2Lakh units of the Creta and is still going strong. The waiting period for some of the variants go as high as up to 4-5 months and it is offered in five trims - E, EX, S, SX and SX(O).
Currently, the SX and the SX(O) accounts for 51% of the sales and the 1.5L diesel is the most popular one as it gets the highest sales of over 60%. Even with the less gap in petrol and diesel prices and the new regulations, the diesel Creta is still popular in the Indian market.
20% of the buyers have opted for the automatic transmission of the Creta. It shall be noted that even with the COVID restrictions, the Creta has sold really well in the market and the features are loaded to the brim.

It gets features like an electronic parking brake, 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, front ventilated seats, wireless charger, air purifier, 17-inch alloy wheels in a different design for 1.5L petrol, diesel and 1.4L turbo petrol engine. It further continues with BlueLink connected car technology and a larger touchscreen infotainment system.
The prices of the new Creta starts from Rs 10 lakh and the top model fetches till Rs 17.54 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. It competes with Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and MG Hector. In other news, the 7-seater version of Hyundai Creta named Alcazar will also launch this year.
