Hyundai recently launched the new i20 in the Indian market and this new vehicle now comes with refreshed engine options, a new look, and various new features. For starters, the new i20 now gets three engine options - a 1.2-L naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-L turbo petrol engine, and 1.5-L U2 diesel engine. While each one of these engines has something or the other, the diesel engine is known for its supreme driveability and high fuel economy figures. Having said this, we did do fuel economy run of the new i20 diesel to see how much can this new motor deliver. So, what were the results of the 2020 Hyundai i20 BS6 Diesel fuel economy run? Let's find out.
The new 1.5-L U2 diesel engine powering the new i20 produces 100 Ps and 240 Nm of peak torque output making it one of the most powerful diesel hatchback in the market right now. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed MT and gets a claimed fuel economy figure of over 25 kmpl. During our 2020 Hyundai i20 BS6 diesel fuel economy run, we used tank full to tank full method to check the maximum fuel economy that can be achieved from this new vehicle by driving it at approx 85 km/h for 200 kilometres. Tank full to tank full method is known to be the most accurate and fool-proof way of calculating the fuel efficiency figures.

Before the journey started, the fuel tank of the vehicle was filled till the brim and we did reset all the trip meters and the average fuel economy display of the car. The car was then driven on a highway for 200 kms by setting the cruise control at 85 km/h most of the times.
By the end of this 200 km trip, the average fuel economy displayed a fuel economy figure of 28.6 kmpl. The whole journey took around 2 hours and 42 mins. The fuel tank was again filled to the brim and the car took in 6.34 litres of diesel. Simple calculations revealed that the new 2020 Hyundai i20 diesel returned an average fuel economy figure of 31.65 kmpl during our 200 km long fuel economy run which is very impressive for a car of this size.
