2020 Hyundai i20 Detailed look; India Launch Soon

Hyundai had their guns blazing this year but due to the impact of Covid-19, they have postponed some of their launches. We were just days away from the India launch of the 2020 Verna but it will be delayed for some time. Likewise, the next launch in the pipeline is the 2020 Hyundai i20 and our fingers remain crossed in terms of its launch time period. In the meantime, we will share with you a detailed insight into this premium supermini.

Hyundai revealed the first images of the 2020 i20 at the Geneva motor show for the first time. It looks striking is what we said for at the first look. Talking about the latest pictures, the front looks very sharp and gives it a hunkered-down stance with a blacked-out cascading grille- similar to what we saw in the Verna facelift; the LED headlights with angular DRLs gives it a very striking look. Vertical air dams and projector fog lamps are placed on the bumper below.

Moving to the side profile, the blacked-out D-pillar with a unique design element makes the roof look like it is tapering downwards and the look is further accentuated with low profile tyres which we suspect to come on the Indian spec model. The wraparound taillights which are the highlight of the back profile are placed in a Z at either of the rear fenders. The rear profile is the major highlight of the 2020 Hyundai i20 featuring connected LED taillights which is apparently the latest fashion of 2020. The LED forms a Z-patten in the night and joins the centre-placed reflector.

Moving inside the car, the two big displays grab your attention. Although they aren't connected like we see in Mercedes' but gives it a seamless look. The digital driver's display has been carried over from the 2021 Hyundai Elantra but the Indian-spec i20 will borrow the same from the recently unveiled Hyundai Verna Facelift.

The second screen which is freestanding on the dashboard will be over 10-inches and will offer Bluelink, Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Controls for the Air Con are placed below and the AC vents are laid out in a continuous vent, although only some parts of it are functional and rest is for the sake of aesthetics. It will also get wireless charging and ventilated seats. The 4-spoke steering wheel sports volume and cruise control buttons.

Under the bonnet will be 3 engines- two petrol and one diesel engine. The base petrol will be a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83 ps and 113 Nm of torque, top-spec variants will get a 1.0-litre 3-cyl Turbo petrol engine and it will churn out 100 Ps and 172 Nm of torque. The diesel engine, which will replace the older 1.4-litre unit, will be the 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 100 Ps and 240 Nm of torque.

Both the petrol engines will get a 5-speed manual whereas the 1.2-petrol might also get an option of a 5-speed AMT. Diesel will be offered with a 6-speed manual, although we suspect the launch of an automatic with the diesel engine.
