No one can disagree that the 2020 Hyundai i20 was the most-awaited and highly-anticipated car of this year. As the launch is done and the prices are out, we give you a thorough overview in form of the first look review of the 2020 Hyundai i20. With that being said, let's see whether it lives up to the expectations and value propositions or not.

2020 Hyundai i20 First Look Review - Exteriors

2020 Hyundai i20 review

The all-new Hyundai i20 follows the Sensuous Sportiness design principles first used in the 2021 Elantra. The result is sharp and striking design elements along with a sporty stance. The Euro-spec i20 measures more than 4 metres in length, hence Hyundai India resigned the rear profile to keep it under 4 metres without changing the design. Moreover, the only visible change on the Indian-spec i20 is the absence of LED headlights.

Before going into the design elements, let's talk about dimensions. The new i20 measures 3,995mm in length, 1,775mm in width, 1,505mm in height and come with a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The front of the new i20 is hunkered down along with Verna-esque design. The LED projector headlights merge into the grille which comes with a gloss black treatment. The vertical air dams housing also carries the projector fog lamps.

The side profile is sharp with a prominent shoulder line and rear crease jutting out from the taillights. The taillights are given Z-pattern and are connected with a chrome strip running the width of the car. The looks of the new i20 are not towards everybody's taste but it will catch eyeballs on the roads for sure.

2020 Hyundai i20 First Look Review - Interiors and Features

Hyundai i20 impresses on the inside for sure with some key design cues reminiscent of German cars. The layout is plain with the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment sitting on the top of the dash. The central AC vents design is carried to the ends merging with the side vents - giving a faux seamless AC vents looks. The instrument cluster is all digital and the same unit we get in the Verna, however, Euro-spec i20 carries the 2021 Elantra's screen.

While the lower trims of the i20 come with black and beige interiors, the turbo trims carry the all-black dashboard and the top trim also gets leatherette seat covers. The turbo trims of the i20 add red inserts on the AC vents and steering mounted controls. Moreover, the front adjustable headrests are fixed but the rear headrests are adjustable only in the Asta (O) trim.

Hyundai i20 First Look Review - Engines and gearboxes

2020 Hyundai i20 review

The new Hyundai i20 shares its engine and gearbox combinations with the Venue. The first engine is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine with 83 PS and 113 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is also available with an IVT which churns out 88PS of power. The second engine is the 1.5-litre WGT diesel engine with 100 PS and 240 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual only. The last engine on offer is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, mated to 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT.

Hyundai i20 First Look Review - Price and Variants

The all-new Hyundai i20 is a very attractive and premium offering from the Korean carmaker but Hyundai has gone very ambitious this time. The pricing of the new i20 puts it in the region of sub-compact SUVs. Moreover, the base Magna trim of the i20 is even expensive than the Kia Sonet's HTE trim. If there is a single caveat in way of the Hyundai i20, that has to be the pricing. The top-end 1.0-litre turbo DCT Asta (O) fetches up to 11.18 lakh ex-showroom, PAN India. Talking about the variants, the i20 comes in Magna, Sports, Asta and Asta (O).
