Hyundai's next blockbuster for India will be the all-new i20. Real world testing has been in place for months and we had caught it on test in Delhi earlier this month. And now for the first time on video, the Hyundai i20 2020 can be seen on its test schedule along with two of its chief rivals, the Maruti Baleno and the Volkswagen Polo. The video was caught today around the National Capital Region.
We all know the Hyundai i20 2020 will compete in the premium hatchback segment but its the first time we saw it on test along with the other two hatchbacks. There were three mules of the new i20 along with one model each of the Baleno and the Polo. Interestingly, the Polo and the Baleno's registration numbers threw up the RTO as Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, which is very near to Kia's factory. For the uninitiated, both Hyundai and Kia are part of the same Korea based group.
Another interesting fact is the Polo model - this is the older 1.2 TSI engine which was good for 104 bhp of power. In contrast, the i20's turbo petrol will put out 100 bhp from the slightly smaller 1.0 motor. But its good to see Hyundai using the performance oriented Polo, not the regular one. Being the TSI DSG, it also hints towards the 2020 i20 coming with an optional DCT from day number one of its launch. We can't wait to get behind the wheel!
The Maruti Baleno on the other hand is a segment best seller and is a well packaged product at the right price. That said, the Hyundai i20 2020 might be able to beat it in terms of design, performance and features. We aren't sure if the Baleno in the video here was the automatic CVT or the manual one.
All the five cars had their own numbers for the convoy pasted on the rear windscreen. We could also see some co-drivers on a laptop which meant evaluation and testing was in place on a real time basis.
