Bombay-based Indian Utility Vehicle Giant - Mahindra recently unveiled the new-generation Thar. The new-gen Thar was unveiled this Independence day and ever since it has been unveiled, there has been a lot of buzz around it as the new Thar is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. The 2020 Mahindra Thar is an all-new product, both inside and out. It also gets new powertrain options and recently we got to test it on the roads of the Delhi-NCR region. So, here we have for you the 0-100 kmph Acceleration Test of the new 2020 Mahindra Thar.
We have tested both the Diesel Manual and Diesel Automatic variants of the new Thar. Now, before we begin with the acceleration test figures, let me give you a quick insight about its engine specifications. So, the new Thar gets a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This oil-burner churns out 132 PS of power at 3750 RPM and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800 RPM. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and gets 4X4 system as standard.

Now, let's talk about the performance figures of the new Thar. So, as you can see in the above-embedded video, at first we took the 2.2-litre Diesel engine variant paired with a manual gearbox for a spin. We have tested its top speed up to the first four gears only. Also, this test was conducted in a closed environment, please do not imitate it on public roads. So, the diesel manual variant of the new Thar did 0-60 kmph in just 5.2 seconds while it did 0-100 kmph in 13.1 seconds. The top speed which we could attain in the fourth gear was 140 kmph.
Now, let's talk about the diesel automatic variant. So, the diesel automatic variant of the new Thar proved to be even quicker in our test. It completed 0-60 kmph in just 5 seconds while the 0-100 kmph sprint took 12.9 seconds. We also did another test to check its top speed in each gear with the diesel manual variant. So, in first gear, it did 43 kmph, the second gear took it till 73 kmph. The third gear of the SUV is quite tall and it managed 111 kmph in the third gear while the fourth gear can take it up to 140kmph+.

So, this was all about the 0-100 kmph acceleration test of the new 2020 Mahindra Thar. Update 21-05-2021 - According to reports, Mahindra is also planning to bring a 2WD version of the Thar with 1.5L diesel and will be the base variant. Only time will tell that how much of this is true and if the Indian carmaker decides to bring this in production model then Thar will be quite popular in the Indian market. Also, the waiting period of Mahindra Thar has crossed 9 months in some cities.
