2022 KIA EV6 is expected to be the first EV car from KIA to be launched in India. Here are 5 things that you should know about this upcoming EV crossover.
With the launch of Carens, KIA has shocked the Indian automotive market with its potential yet again. The aggressive pricing and value for money attribute of Carens have helped KIA to grab thousands of bookings within a single day of launch. KIA has already notified the Indian market about their intentions of introducing a complete EV range which will include the launch of 6 EVs by the end of the year 2028. The first one of these launches will be the 2022 KIA EV6 crossover.
Here are 5 things that you should know about this upcoming EV crossover from KIA:
Based on E-GM Platform
As we know that KIA shares its platforms and technological advent with the parent company Hyundai, the upcoming EV6 crossover is based on a completely new platform which is also used by the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Called the Electric-Global Modular (E-GM) platform, this platform has been jointly developed by both South Korean carmakers to establish new all-electric models which shall be further launched as a plan of launching 6 EV cars by the end of the year 2028.
This platform is not just lightweight, but it is also more strong and suitable for EV cars to be developed further.
Engine & Performance
The upcoming EV6 from KIA will be sharing the mechanical components from its sibling i.e. Hyundai Ioniq 5. This means that the EV6 crossover shall also use the 58 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which shall produce a peak power of 170 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This battery pack shall be used on the lower variants of the EV6. These variants will be equipped with a two-wheel drive system and the global models are claimed to attain a 0-100 kmph mark under 8.5 seconds.
A bigger battery pack of higher models produces a good 321 Bhp of peak power and 605 Nm of peak torque. These top-of-the-line variants are claimed to perform 0-100 kmph under just the 5.2 seconds mark. KIA has equipped these higher variants with a four-wheel-drive system.
A GT variant is also sold in the international markets which are expected to be introduced in India also. KIA EV6 GT variant uses the biggest battery pack and produces a whopping 585 Bhp of peak power and 740 Nm of peak torque figures.
Longer Range
KIA has managed to achieve a longer driving range in the real world for the global models of EV6 crossover. While the smallest battery pack version using the 58 kWh battery can drive up to 400 km on a single charge in a WLTP cycle; the higher versions have a claimed driving range of 510 km on a single charge.
KIA has also equipped the EV6 crossover with an 800V of charging capacity allowing the EV to retain back 80 percent of the battery within 18 minutes using a reliable 350 kW fast charger. These figures can only be achieved via KIA's electric charging station points.

Futuristic Design
KIA has designed the EV6 crossover in a very subtle and futuristic manner. Use of modern design cues such as sharp looking overall design, use of sharp and wraparound all-LED headlights, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a calm-shell bonnet design, a coupe inspired C-pillar design to give the EV6 rear a teardrop shape, LED taillights that wrap around the boot in a single bar shape, dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheel design feature the exteriors of KIA EV6.
Unlike Hyundai's Ioniq 5, KIA EV6 is designed with a modern approach which is also visible in the inside of the crossover. A very pleasant and futuristic design attribute bluntly takes over the interior design of the EV6 crossover. Use of two-spoke steering wheel, fewer buttons, augmented reality function, a large single digital infotainment screen embedded with the instrument cluster.
An applaudable design feature is the use of recycled plastic materials in the interiors of the EV6 by KIA.
