Toyota is all set to launch its upcoming mid-size SUV, Urban Cruiser Hyryder in September 2022. The same was supposed to be launched around mid-August but now the launch is scheduled for early Sept. Once launched, it will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, MG Astor and the upcoming Maruti Grand Vitara.
Mechanically, Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be powered by two engine options - 1.5L mild hybrid and 1.5L strong hybrid. The former is borrowed from Maruti Grand Vitara and pumps out 102 bhp of power with a peak torque of 136.8 Nm.
This engine is equipped with idle start/stop technology to improve efficiency and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard and a six-speed torque converter automatic as an option. The SUV gets a front-wheel drive set-up as standard but some trims also get AWD as an option. Additionally, the AWD is available only with a 1.5L mild-hybrid motor and with a manual transmission only.

This will be the first in-segment feature as no other SUV in the competition allows the car to be driven in fully electric mode, even for a short while (except the upcoming Maruti Grand Vitara).
Feature-wise, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, ventilated cooled seats, auto HVAC function, power folding ORVMs, rear AC vents and more.
