Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 Exhaust Sound
We spied the test bike on the outskirts of Chennai. The test bike seems production-ready. Out of all the changes, it is the exhaust design that drew our attention the most. It uses an all-new two-in-one exhaust system. It is the first time ever that RE has used such a radical design of exhaust. Meanwhile, the bike was seen on an open highway. Hence, we were able to capture the exhaust note in its pure form. Additionally, the test rider was trying to get away and hence he pushed the engine to its limits. All in all, the new exhaust note was properly captured and listened to by us.
As it gets a small exhaust end can, the note of it is very bassy. However, when the bike was pushed, it became more subtle. But, the loudness of the exhaust can not be ignored. No, it is not loud the way aftermarket exhausts are but it is very subtle and classy. The exhaust note of it resembles the old-school parallel-twin bikes that were used on flat-track racing. Moreover, the new exhaust system is suspected to be far more lightweight than the current twin-pipe system. As it gets less weight, the center of mass will help a rider with enhanced handling inside the traffic. Meanwhile, less weight shall also translate into more performance.
However, we can not comment on anything with surety. Reason? Because it is just a test bike. Manufacturers have been known for testing equipment that might never make it to production models. Hence, the two-in-one system might be just a test. Who knows? What we know is that the engine it uses is the same 650cc as the Interceptor. Additionally, the presence of dual-purpose tyres, USD forks, & revised rider triangle shall help in better performance.
Verdict
The Scrambler 650 is going to be the next most anticipated launch from RE. Proving this fact is the recently leaked document from RE's investor meeting. The leaked document has clearly shown that RE is going to introduce a Scram based on 650. Meanwhile, the Himalayan 450 will penetrate into a new niche with a brand-new engine alongside it. We suspect that it will debut globally in early 2023 whilst the launch might take place by the end of it. Pricing will remain around the likes of Rs 3 lakh.
