As visible in the video itself, the design of the eVX will be a subtle one. The overall shape resembles of a proper ICE-powered SUV. The chiselled body panels and a curvy yet bulky appeal will be the key highlight of the design. Moreover, the test car spotted is using a dual-projector headlight setup with an LED light and a halogen bulb. Considering that this is a test car, the final model will get a complete LED setup.

While most of the car is covered, the rear design showcases a coupe-like roof with an LED stoplight mounted on the spoiler. It'll also get a curvy boot design with a wrap-around LED taillight and an LED light bar on the boot. The front left fender has the charging port, thus clarifying that it is an EV. The 17-inch alloy wheels have a generous sidewall which Maruti will use to achieve its well-known cushioned ride quality.

This model will also be a feature-rich EV. Look at the front and the grille has a camera and so does the ORVMs. This indicates a 360-degree parking camera will be offered on it. Moreover, the windshield shows a camera equipped behind the IRVM. This probably indicates the testing of the ADAS module. If this happens, the eVX will become the first Maruti to get ADAS.

Now there is no solid evidence available about the battery pack and the electric motor, but, some online rumours suggest that a 60kWh lithium-ion battery will power the eVX. During our spy video, we saw the car being tested on a highway that is 100 km away from the Manesar-based ICAT testing centre. This means that the range of the car is going to be user-friendly and Maruti is eyeing for practicality.

Above: The test car was not crossing 80 kmph mark on the highway

Another interesting detail we noticed was that the test car was not crossing 80 kmph. It might be due to an electronic speed limiter or due to a range testing rule. Whatever the reason be, the in-gear acceleration, as we call for ICE cars, was very brisk. Being an EV, the performance will also be quick as well and the top speed might also be more than 160 kmph.

Launch Time, Price, and Rivals

Maruti has not spoken a word about its launch timeline but the expectations are that it'll debut before this year's end. The road testing phase is considered the final stage approach during a new product development. Hence, we can expect the car to be ready in the second quarter of this year.

Now, the pricing will be a key factor for the apt audience response. We suspect that Maruti will keep the prices between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). While there are no direct rivals present to it, the upcoming Tata Harrier EV can be considered as it primary target.

Verdict

Maruti's enterance into the EV market in India is going to be a crucial step for the car maker. In fact, big automotive giants globally are closely monitoring Maruti. Hence, the eVX becomes a very important car for the company. More details about it'll surface as we appraoch towards the launch timeline of it. Tell us in the comments about your expectations and thoughts on the upcoming eVX.
