The automotive industry, if seen as a whole, is in the process to make a shift towards electric mobility. Though Indian society is yet to build its EV infrastructure, people have started adopting more and more electric cars and scooters.
In this article today, we will talk about Northways latest project on converting the Maruti Suzuki Ignis to an electric car with a range of 245 kms on a single charge. The car converted to electric was earlier mated to a manual gearbox. The most soothing thing about the electric Ignis is that the car comes with an electric motor mated to a manual transmission.

This Ignis is a full-fledged one that can give you a feel of an automatic electric car and a manual one as well. If the gear of the car is set to third or fourth gear, it will drive like an automatic car. You can start and stop without changing gears. The car not only offers the practicality of an automatic but in addition to this, also offers a similar driving experience as you would expect from a manual car.
Anyone with this Ignis can get their car converted to an all-electric one that can give you the feel of an automatic and manual one as well. If pottering through city traffic, one can shift to an automatic gearbox and if one wants to take the feel of a manual one that can also be taken care of. The total cost needed for conversion turns out to be Rs 12.5 lakhs for the standard one and Rs 14.5 lakhs for the long-range variant.

The converted Maruti Suzuki Ignis EV will be available with two batteries - Drive CT(standard) with a 140 km range on a single charge and Inter CT (longer Range) with a range of 240 kms.
The motor is capable of churning out 170 Nm of peak torque. This electric Ignis can be charged with the help of a three-pin AC wall charger and on the available charging stations. The car can get fully charged in just 3-7 hours depending on the battery pack capacity.
