Honda Amaze is one of the popular sub-4 meter sedans in the Indian market. The sedan has recently been tested by the Global NCAP crash test agency again, and it came out with surprising results. This is the second time the Amaze has gone through the test, previously it was tested in 2019. The Amaze has scored 2 stars in adult safety and 0 stars in child safety under the new GNCAP protocol. Honda Amaze - Recent GNCAP Result
The new GNCAP crash test was done under the new protocol which requires certain equipment to be standard on the vehicle for better safety rating. The Honda Amaze tested under the new protocol was equipped with two airbags, and no ESC and other equipment were available. The Amaze with this equipment scored 27.85 points out of 34 points in the adult safety rating and 8.58 points out of 49 points in the child safety rating. Previously in 2019, the South African version of the Amaze scored 4 stars in adult safety rating.
Honda Amaze - Adult Safety
In the new test the frontal impact the head and neck of the driver and passenger enjoy good protection. The chest area of the front passenger and driver also shows adequate protection. The lower parts such as the knees show marginal protection while the tibias showed good protection. The overall bodyshell was rated as stable.
The agency has not performed a side pole impact test as the model was not equipped with side head protection. In the side impact test, the head and pelvis showed good protection while the chest enjoyed marginal protection and the abdomen showed adequate protection.
Honda Amaze - Child Safety
In the child safety rating, the frontal impact test showed that the child seat was installed forward-facing for a 3-year-old using the ISOFIX anchorages and top tether. It was able to prevent excessive head excursion during frontal impact. The seat for the 18-month-old child was installed rearward facing using the adult seatbelt and it was not able to prevent the risk of ejection during the front collision. However, the side impact showed full protection.
Honda Cars India Statement On Latest GNCAP Results
The South Africa spec 2nd Generation Amaze has already been tested as 4 stars by GNCAP in 2019. The latest test basis new protocol shows that the total score is of 5-star level. However, mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like Electronic Stability Control and Side Curtain Airbags, it resulted in a lower rating.

Verdict
The GNCAP protocols have become more stringent and now they require more safety features in order to give 5 stars safety rating. The Amaze model tested in the GNCAP misses on features like ESC, six-airbags and some other features which are important to get a perfect 5 star. Honda Amaze competes with the Maruti Dzire, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Aura.
