- Kia is all set to unveil the production-ready EV9 in a global premiere
- The new EV from Kia will be based on the E-GMP platform
- This could be the flagship product of Kia Globally
Kia Motors is all set to unveil the EV9 electric SUV in a global event which is expected by the end of March or early April. However, before that, a production-ready EV9 was recently spotted during its road testing in Korea. First revealed in its concept form at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the electric SUV is expected to be the flagship product of Kia globally. The Kia EV9 will be based on the E-GMP platform, the same platform that underpins the Kia EV6. The electric SUV is also expected to get a third row with 6 to 7-seater options. Here are all the details from the recent images of the Kia EV9 test vehicle.
Kia EV9 Electric SUV: Design
The images of the Kia EV9 test vehicle from Korea reveal a boxy shape and SUV-like stance. The higher ground clearance & large wheel arches with thick cladding around them can be seen in the images. The vertically designed front DRLs & rear taillamps of the e-SUV too look quite unique. However, the most interesting element of the Kia EV9 seems to be the large alloy wheels, possibly as large as 20 inches. Moreover, as per the images of the test vehicle, the Kia EV9 is expected to get EV-specific alloy wheels and flush-type door handles, both of which will help in reducing drag and contributing to increased range.
Kia EV9 Electric SUV: Expected Specs
The Kia EV9 will be based on the E-GMP platform, which also underpins the Kia EV6. Thus, we can expect it to offer a range of around 450 to 550 km. There could be two battery pack options, one with a normal range and the other with an extended range. Kia could also offer a GT variant of the e-SUV with more power & torque output. More details about the Kia EV9 are expected in the coming few weeks.

Verdict: The new EV9 will be a global flagship product for Kia and we can expect its launch in India too, maybe sometime in 2024. If launched in India, it would sit above the already-on-sale Kia EV6 and will be sold as a premium luxury three-row electric SUV from the Korean automaker.
