Mahindra Thar 5-Door Sunroof Details
The latest spy images show that the upcoming Thar 5-Door will get a mid-mounted sunroof. Traditionally, the sunroof is placed towards the front section of the rooftop. However, Mahindra will place it in the centre. Why is it being done will only get cleared once the SUV gets launched. Speaking of its launch, Mahindra has pushed the launch timeline to the next year. Most of the online reports now hint that it'll debut early in 2024. Meanwhile, the design looks similar to the 3-Door version but with two more doors. However, there will be many alterations to this model. The Thar test mule was seen testing along with the facelift of XUV300.
The spied model itself has LED fog lights; hinting towards LED headlights on it. Also, the interiors will be revised with a new infotainment system and auto AC as expected now. Meanwhile, Mahindra might also tweak the instrument console on it with more vital info on display. However, underneath the bonnet, it is rumoured to get the same engine options as the current model. But, Mahindra will re-tune and increase the power & torque for both petrol and diesel engine options. This is to counter the additional weight and hefty dimensions of the 5-Door version. It'll also get the options of manual as well as automatic transmission.
Verdict
While the launch timeline is pushed to the next year, the extensive testing is to ensure fewer issues afterwards. Also, as its direct rival Maruti Jimny 5-Door has launched in India; Mahindra wants to generate maximum from its upcoming Thar 5-Door version in terms of 'value for money'. However, we think that it will be priced upwards of Rs 15 lakh; once launched next year.
