Maruti Brezza CNG Safety Boosted: Gets ESC And HSC Again
As per a leaked internal document doing rounds online, Maruti Suzuki is planning to reintroduce Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) in the forthcoming Brezza CNG models. These functionalities were originally included in the Brezza CNG variants. Approximately a year ago, alongside the removal of mild-hybrid technology from the petrol-manual variants, Maruti Suzuki also eliminated these features from the CNG variants.
This move stemmed from the semiconductor shortage that plagued the entire automotive industry, seriously impacting the operations. During that time period, the waiting times were crazy high with a big hit on components involving semiconductors. In terms of pricing, we expect that it will not be impacted with these additions, considering the fact that these were already a part of the package.
In addition to these essential safety features, Brezza is getting an added convenience feature that makes driving a delight. Yes! Finally, the Maruti Brezza is getting steering returnability where the steering wheel returns to its original position after taking a turn. While it may sound simple, it certainly is worth mentioning.

Powertrain
The Brezza, foregoing a diesel option, opts for a petrol path but compensates with a petrol+CNG powertrain. Sporting a 1.5-liter K-Series petrol engine, it delivers 103 PS power and a peak torque of 137 Nm. However, when in CNG mode, power reduces to 86 PS with a peak torque of 121.5 Nm, a trade-off mitigated by improved fuel efficiency. It boasts 19.80 kmpl in petrol mode and 25.51 km/kg in CNG mode, offering a balanced approach between performance and economy. It will soon get a rival in the form of Tata Nexon CNG, which has been spied on multiple occasions now.
Verdict
The re-introduction of electronic stability control and the Hill-hold assist is an essential update for the SUV and makes the SUV safer than before. While we do not expect a price hike for these reinstated elements, there is no conrete info regarding this.
