Back in 2015, Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Cross with high hopes to captivate the growing SUV market in India. It was also the same year when Hyundai Creta was launched. Being offered in two diesel engine variants i.e. the 1.3-Lt Multijet and the 1.6-Lt diesel; S-Cross was made for every type of customer. While the 1.6 was fun to drive and full of torque, the 1.3 diesel was made for more economical buyers as it was easy on the pocket. Sadly, the S-Cross could not perform as per the expectations as the sales never really took off.
While most of the potential buyers either shifted towards the rivals such as the Creta, some of the buyers went for the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza for being more proportionate looking and handsome as well. Although Brezza is a success story in itself, the S-Cross always struggled for destined sales as it witnessed very niche buyers. Later, Maruti updated the S-Cross with more mature looks, better equipment, & petrol only a 1.5-Lt mild-hybrid engine. The lackluster engine performance mixed with lethargic 4-speed torque converter automatic led to low sales volumes again.
