MG Mifa 9 Details
The Mifa 9 will be an India-spec version of the SAIC-owned Maxus MPV currently sold in markets such as China and the United Kingdom (UK). However, India is not the first market where the MPV will land with MG badging, it has already been sold with the MG brand in Singapore and the Philippines.
The Mifa 9 was first landed in the electric avatar in 2021 and later the company also launched its ICE counterpart, the G90 MPV. The ICE version is offered in two engine options- a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel engine, mated to a mild-hybrid system. For India, we are not expecting the launch of the ICE version of the MPV as the brand has its main focus towards the electric and hybrid powertrains in our region.
MG Mifa 9 Design and Features
The Mifa 9 is a large car even according to the MPV standards. It measures around 5.2 metre in length, 1.8 metres in height and 2 metres in width. These dimensions make it even bigger than the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellifire. Inside the cabin, you get a 7 and 8 seating layout. On the feature front, the Mifa 9 gets ottoman seats, twin sunroofs, rear entertainment screens, powered rear sliding doors, heated/ventilated/massage seats and much more.
Positioning and Expectations
With the Mifa 9, MG Motor India is targeting a super premium segment. However, the electric MPV is expected to come with a lower price tag than its rivals such as Vellfire. It will be sold under the MG Select premium dealership network. Also, as MG has no such rigid image for a particular car body type, the idea to come up with an MPV may work for the brand if priced strategically.
