Royal Enfield 450 Roadster - Will It Be Called Hunter?
As seen in the spy shots, the Indian test bike looks similar to the global test bike that was spied on a few months back. The overall design is very different as per the RE standards and design language. It has an upright riding posture with a sporty setup. The front uses a neo-retro design including a round LED headlight, LED indicators, & telescopic forks. The sculpted fuel tank is supported by a single seat that tends to an upright rear end. The rear design has a tail tidy sort; as it has a small LED taillight and a short fender.
RE will focus on its rideability inside the city traffic conditions & hence the center of mass will mainly lie down under the rider seat. Therefore, a small exhaust can like the one on Hunter 350, will be used here. Additionally, it'll make it sound grunty as well. The bike seen testing here also has road tyres and alloy wheels which probably are 17 inches.
The main USP of it will be the new 450cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. This engine will debut with the upcoming Himalayan 450 & it is expected to make around 40 bhp of peak power. In addition to this, it'll get dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch, & even there is a possibility of riding modes as well. Recently, we saw a Himalayan 450 test mule with a TFT cluster and cruise control button. While the cruise control might not make it on the roadster; the TFT screen will surely do.
Verdict - When Will It Launch?
The possibility of RE badging it Hunter 450 can not be denied. In the past, we've also seen a Scrambler test bike based on the same platform. Hence, RE might launch the roadster along with a tougher Scrambler variant in the future. We suspect that it'll launch sometime in 2024. We expect that it'll be priced around Rs 2.5 - 2.75 lakh as its direct competition will be KTM Duke 390 & the upcoming Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler.
