Shotgun 650 - Better Than Super Meteor?
Royal Enfield showcased the SG650 concept bike at the EICMA 2021 auto show. That concept model attracted a lot of eyeballs during the event. Later on, RE confirmed that it is developing a new 650cc bike on the same platform. Now, the latest spied-on a test bike confirms that the Shotgun is almost production-ready. It'll debut likely during the upcoming Diwali festival in India. However, it'll be different from its siblings i.e. the Interceptor 650 or the Continental GT 650.
We suspect that it will use the same chassis as the Super Meteor 650. However, being a bobber model, it'll have its fair share of revision to the design. As seen in the photos, it'll offer a straight and more comfortable riding position. Also, its design hints at the SG650 concept as well. Along with a straight riding position, the footpegs for the rider will also be mid-set. The overall outlook hints at the neo-retro design with a round LED headlight and the Meteor 350-like taillight. The exhausts, however, will be similar to that of the Super Meteor. The latest spy photos also show that it'll get the twin-pod instrument console like the Interceptor. There is also a mini-pod midst the console which will be the Tripper Navigation pod. This means it'll get Bluetooth connectivity for the phone.
Some other noticeable features include USD front forks & alloy wheels. Its engine will be the same 648cc parallel twin as shared by the current 650 lineup. But, RE might fiddle with the gear ratios of it to provide better rideability.
Verdict
Currently, RE is focusing on its two other models that are scheduled to launch soon. The upcoming Himalayan 450 & the J-platform Bullet 350 will debut in the coming months time. However, the Shotgun is also nearing its production stage and it'll debut by October'23. We suspect that it'll be priced at around Rs 3.5 lakh; just below the range-topping Super Meteor 650.
