Skoda CNG SUVs In India Could Soon Be A Possibility
Skoda, which has adopted a strategy of offering both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in India, is now considering the introduction of CNG technology to its Indian lineup. The automaker currently offers two petrol engine options: a localized 1.0-liter TSI and a higher-spec 1.5-liter TSI, which relies more heavily on imported components. It is likely that the CNG could be introduced along with the 1.0L TSI variants. Skoda has expressed interest in introducing CNG technology to India, particularly for its 1.0-liter TSI engine. This engine has been successfully paired with CNG technology in European models like the Scala and Citigo.
While a CNG-powered Kushaq was spotted undergoing testing in India, there has been no official confirmation regarding its launch. Skoda's potential entry into the CNG segment could target models like the Kylaq, which would compete with vehicles like the Maruti Fronx, Brezza, Baleno, Toyota Taisor, and other CNG SUVs at this point in the market. However, at this point, it is just a thought and even though plans might already be in the works, it would take some time before Skoda CNG SUVs in India could turn out to be a reality.

Skoda Kylaq Compact SUV Launched At Rs.
Skoda has officially launched its new compact SUV, the Kylaq, in India, with prices starting at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as an entry-level offering, the Kylaq targets budget-conscious buyers. Skoda aims to achieve annual sales of 100,000 units with this model. The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine that delivers 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. At the same time, a turbocharged option is not available, something that might put off the enthusiast circle.
Verdict
The move to introduce a CNG SUV could be a good move to establish the brand more firmly in the mass market segment, striking a chord with the mileage sensitive market. However, it would still take some time for Skoda to come forward as a more popular choice as the segment already has some key players from brands like Tata and Hyundai, which enjoys a little edge due to their widespread dealership network. As for the performance bit, I have no inhibitions as the Skoda mechanicals are well-known performers.
