1. Sporty Exteriors
The newly launched Tata Altroz Racer has its exterior looks doing all the talking for it. The dual-tone exterior with centrally placed racing stripes, blacked-out roof, and striking color contrasts all scream aggression, a glimpse of what rests under the hood. While the sheet metal is beaten on the lines of regular Altroz, you get a revised front grill and a dual-tip exhaust for that turbo petrol grunt.
You get the same alloy design but is now painted in a dark black tone and the blacked-out A and B pillars add to that Racer touch. Moreover, the tailgate gets the iTurbo badging while the front fenders get 'Racer' badging as well.
2. More Power Than The Outgoing iTurbo
The name is self-explanatory for what it packs underneath. The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, generating 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Interestingly, the outgoing iTurbo engine puts out 110 PS power with a peak torque of 140 Nm.
3. Segment-First Features To Knock-Off Rivals
In addition to its sporty exterior appeal, the Altroz Racer endeavors to enhance the in-cabin experience. While incorporating existing tech from the current model, it enhances and expands upon it to present an extensive tech lineup. The feature list includes wireless charging, a single-pane voice-activated electric sunroof, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone connectivity, ventilated seats, heads-up display, dual-zone automatic climate control, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), 6-airbags, and other advanced functionalities.

4. Commands A Premium
The Altroz Racer is priced at a starting mark of Rs. 9.49 lakhs which is a premium over the regular variants. This can be attributed to the more powerful engine, exterior enhancements, and features. However, with this pricing, it undercuts the Hyundai i20 N-line by Rs. 50,000 and also ruffles some cross-segment feathers which we cover in our next point.
5. Rivals: Lands Cross-Segment Punches
The Tata Altroz Racer is the direct rival of the Hyundai i20 N-Line. Both these hatchbacks are the only options for people who want a performance-oriented hatchback. However, with its positioning and pricing, it crosses over to the sub-compact SUV space and rubs shoulders with select trims of the Maruti Fronx 1.0-litre Boosterjet variants. For reference, the Boosterjet variants start at Rs. 9.73 lakhs for the Delta+ variant.
Verdict
The all new Tata Altroz Racer is finally here and the i20 NLine's time of exclusivity is over. From now on, there is a strong rival in the segment that is sure to sway some sales away from the South Korean marquee. However, the market is still niche and could easily accomodate a new entrant.
