Tata Reveals Electrified Avatar Of Harrier SUV At Auto Expo 2023
  • Tata has revealed the Harrier EV at the 2023 auto expo
  • When launched, it will be the flagship EV from Tata
  • Will be offered with all-wheel drive & advanced connected car tech

Proving the rumors true, Tata has revealed the electrified avatar of the Harrier SUV. The Harrier EV showcased by Tata at the 2023 auto expo is a production-intent concept vehicle. This means that, compared to the showcased concept vehicle, there would be very few changes in the design and materials of the production-ready Harrier EV when it hits Indian roads sometime in the future. Tata Motors also specified that the Harrier EV will be a long-range EV, with a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive capability. With Harrier EV, Tata wants to cater to buyers who want a long-range, capable, and go-anywhere electric SUV.

The Harrier EV will be embedded with Tata's next-generation advanced connected car tech. It would be powered by edge computing. The cloud-connected telematics and the ability to update itself over the air will make Harrier EV a truly future-ready electric SUV. As Harrier EV is based on Tata Motors' second-gen EV architecture, it would be equipped with technologies like V2L (Vehicle To Load) and V2V (Vehicle To Vehicle) charging capabilities. This means Harrier EV would be able to charge other EVs and electrical/electronic appliances like TV, AC, Microwave, Fridge, etc.

The ICE variant of Harrier is based on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform which is electrification capable. While other Tata EVs like Nexon, Tigor & Tiago are based on the decade-old X1 platform which was modified to fit in the electric powertrain, the new OMEGA platform that underpins the Harrier has been designed and developed to be modular and capable of electrification. This makes Harrier a second-generation EV from Tata, just like the rumored Punch & Altroz EV.

Verdict: When launched, Tata Harrier EV would become a perfect fit for people who want an EV that could be used as a primary vehicle. Also, it would be perfect for people who want a lifestyle electric SUV capable of doing long-distance travel or even a bit of off-roading.
