Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited is all set to launch the most affordable four wheeled EV in India. This is the electric version of the Tiago and will be showcased officially in less than 24 hours from now. Features, versions, performance and pricing, all these parameters will also be revealed tomorrow. Our team is already in Mumbai to get you more details including a walk-around video. But before that happens, a quick look at what all we know about the Tiago EV so far!
Tata Tiago EV Design
Like the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV will get a tweaked grille and a different air-dam design. As there is no cooling required here (no engine, remember?), the Tiago EV will get a solid front grille along with tri-arrow design at either end. The trim below the grille will also be finished in a shade of blue.
At the rear, there will be no tail pipe and the Tiago EV will ride on 14 inch tyres mounted on steel rims. These rims will get smart looking wheel caps and not alloy wheels. EV badging will be visible across the car. We also expect Tata to launch a new colour shade for this model. As the battery pack is pretty heavy, a revised suspension might see the ground clearance going up by 2mm.
Tata Tiago EV Specs
It is safe to assume that the this upcoming electric hatchback will use the same drivetrain that we see in the Tigor sedan EV. This means it will get a 74 bhp / 170 Nm electric motor. However, the battery pack might see a reduction to keep the price low. While the Tigor uses a 26kWh high energy density Lithium-ion battery pack , the Tiago might get a smaller unit, around the 20 kWh mark. We do understand claimed range will drop to around 250km but for most users, this also means the Tiago EV will need a charge up every 3-4 days. When we can charge our phones daily, can't we charge our green wheels every 3-4 days? Talking of which, using a 25kW DC fast charger, the Tiago EV will need about 65 mins for the 0% to 80% charge. The same will increase to about 8 hours when using a normal home socket.
Tata Tiago EV Features
Like the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV will come in multiple versions. There might be a mid-level variant based on the XM and the top spec, based on the XZ. The top end model will get a full digital console, climate control system, infotainment unit with Harman powered audio system and even connected apps. The car, as explained above, will also support fast charging. The typical gear lever will be replaced by a rotary knob for selecting between drive, park and reverse.
Tata Tiago EV Price
The Tigor EV has a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakh for the entry level XE version. With a smaller body and a smaller battery pack, the Tiago EV could be about Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh cheaper, thereby kissing the Rs 10 lakh mark. This could be a big step towards ensuring electric mobility reaches a wider audience in India. Will this happen? Stay tune for all the details coming your way tomorrow!
