Mahindra Thar 5 Door Base Variant
While the Thar 5 Door is not new to the prying cameras, the base variant has been spotted on very few occasions. While higher trims can be identified by the alloy wheels, this one rolls on simple steel wheels without any capping. The Thar 5 Door is slated to debut on August 15, but till then, we can expect many more sightings, revealing more details as we inch towards the stipulated date.
The base variant is most likely to skip the LED headlamps for a halogen unit for a more economical trim. On top of this, the base variant will skip some premium loading found on the higher trims like auto AC, infotainment system, and others. However, the higher trims are poised to offer a richer set of features than the 3-door version.
The highly anticipated 5-door Thar is set to raise the bar for comfort and convenience. While the base variant will focus on essentials, higher trims are expected to boast premium features like a single-pane sunroof, rear AC vents, dual-zone climate control, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a digital driver display.
Safety will be taken care of with 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill start assist, and hill descent control likely to be standard across all variants. Higher trims could see additional safety features like front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera for enhanced maneuverability. This tiered approach caters to a wider range of budgets while allowing buyers to choose the level of equipment that best suits their needs.

Powertrain
The Mahindra Thar 5-door is set to inherit the mechanical prowess of its 3-door counterpart. While the familiar 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines will be under the hood, they're expected to receive tweaks for potentially more muscle. Power and torque figures might climb closer to those of the recently launched Scorpio-N. At launch, the Thar 5-door will likely be a 4WD-only affair, mirroring the initial strategy for the current Thar.
However, a 2WD variant could follow suit later, replicating the path of its smaller sibling. This approach gives Mahindra the opportunity to cater to both off-road enthusiasts and those seeking a more road-biased adventure vehicle. With its debut slated on August 15, 2024 and a launch slated towards Q4 of 2024, it will directly rival the upcoming Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Jimny in the segment.
Verdict
Mahindra Thar 5 door is now not very far from its offciial debut. However, we have covered the multiple spotting in great detail, unearthing major details and scoops. Meanwhile, owing to its big footprint and extra doors, it will appeal to the family oriented buyers who also have a thing for off-road adventures.
