Toyota Fortuner BS6 Production Commences

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has started the production of the BS6 Fortuner at their manufacturing plant, Badadi, Karnataka. Also, the bookings for the same have already commenced at authorised Toyota dealerships at a token amount of Rs 50,000.

Unlike the Innova Crysta BS6 which ditched the bigger 2.8L diesel engine, Toyota Fortuner will see both the 2.7L petrol and the oil burner to be tuned to newer emission norms. As far as the power output is confirmed then it will remain unchanged.

Toyota Fortuner will continue to churn out 177 bhp with maximum torque of 420 Nm (manual) and 450 Nm (automatic) for the turbocharged diesel engine and the 2.7L petrol will make 166 bhp on tap with 245 Nm of torque. The power figures remain unchanged for the BS6 and it is the ARAI certified fuel efficiency that we'll see once it's launched.

Transmission option on the Toyota Fortuner comes mated to a 5-speed manual for the petrol engine and a 6-speed manual for the diesel. As far as automatic is concerned, the 6-speed torque converter unit sticks with both petrol and diesel engines.

Toyota Fortuner has been in the Indian market for over a decade now and the SUV has built a brand in itself. So much that, no other SUV of its size has shaken its place. It directly rivals with the likes of Ford Endeavour which possess higher power figures and offers more convenience features but the sales of Fortuner are higher ever since it was launched.

The SUV gets 7.0-inch infotainment system which supports connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Fortuner carries two interior colour schemes - Dark Brown and Chamois (beige) and power-adjustable driver and front passengers seat. It also receives automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start/stop and other features.

In other news, a facelifted Toyota Fortuner was spotted in the global markets. Like all the mid-cycle facelifts, it'll get restyled front and rear ends along with changes to the interiors and it might offer more convenience features.
