Toyota India has stared shifting to BS6 standards with the Yaris and Innova Crysta which was launched a few weeks back. Innova is not available with the bigger 2.8-litre diesel engine and continues with the 2.4-litre unit in BS6 guise. Rumours suggested that the same will happen with the BS6 Toyota Fortuner but a new leaked report showed up the list of updated engines and variants.
The updated BS6 Toyota Fortuner will carry over the 2.8-litre diesel and the 2.7-litre petrol engines. There will be a total of 7 variants of the diesel and 2 variants of the petrol on offer. The top-end Sigma 4 diesel variants will be offered with 4WD and choice of manual and 6-speed AT gearbox. Further, Sigma 4 variant also comes with the option of interior upholstery- Dark Brown and Chamois.

The petrol variants will only be offered in lower-trim with 2WD only. The 2.7-litre petrol engine producing around 166 hp and 245 Nm of torque can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AT.
However, the official power figures of both the engines aren't revealed yet, we expect the 2.8-litre diesel to produce the same 177 hp and 420 Nm of torque with the manual transmission whereas the 6-speed AT will get additional 30 Nm of torque.

There is no price confirmation as of now but we expect a price hike of around 1-1.5 lakhs with the Toyota Fortuner after the BS6 compliance. We don't expect any major design changes to be made but we would love if Toyota gives a panoramic sunroof to the Fortuner.
Coming to the competition, Mahindra and Ford both have started the testing of the BS6 models of Alturas G4 and Endeavour respectively. The Alturas will retain the same 2.2-litre diesel but Ford Endeavour has loosened up its 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre diesel and a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel will be sold with the Endeavour.
