Toyota plans to build its own hybrid engine for its upcoming products. These include the brands upcoming mid-size SUV (Hyundai Creta rival) and the next Innova.
Toyota India has begun the production of two hybrid engines for its upcoming cars. The Toyota hybrid engines will have capacities of 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter and are expected to power Toyotas upcoming D22 Compact SUV, 560B MPV, and the next generation Innova.
The D22 hybrid compact SUV is expected to launch this festive season, and it will rival the Hyundai Creta. Maruti Suzuki will also launch a compact SUV based on the same model, called YFG. Irrespective of this, the SUV will be powered by the 1.5-liter hybrid engine.

The same engine is also expected to feature in Toyotas upcoming C-segment MPV, 560B, that is scheduled to arrive in 2023. The larger 2.0-liter hybrid motor will power the next-generation Innova, as well.
The upcoming models will be able to drive on electric power for a short distance, unlike mild-hybrid cars today which are at best for stop-and-go situations. This will help both Maruti and Toyota to stronghold their position with fuel-efficient cars.
