Toyota finally launched the Urban Cruiser and it isn't just a rebadged Maruti product this time. A couple of cosmetic changes at the exteriors, interiors and more warranty package is what makes the Urban Cruiser different from the Maruti Brezza. But should you pick this one? Is it that better? Well, in this first look review of the Toyota Urban Cruiser we tell you all about it!
Exteriors
Toyota calls it as Fortuner ka Chota Bhai and we agree with the same. The way the front bumper has been designed really gives it a macho look. The old school design is carried all over the body and some sporty element like silver skid plates at the front and rear gives it a unique appeal.

The side and rear profile more or less remain the same but we do get new diamond-cut alloy wheels which look better than the one Brezza gets. Additionally, you also get a new rustic brown as a colour option. Overall, it is a different taste altogether.
Interiors and Design
Step inside the cabin and you will be glorified with decent plastic quality and the old school theme. To give it a twist inside, Toyota has played with the colour of the fabric upholstery and it now gets dark brown colour. It makes the cabin look fresh and airy. Rest, it features the same design element on the dashboard and centre console.
Engine and Performance
Like the Brezza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser too is devoid of an oil burner. It only gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. This one makes as much as 103 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. Starting from the base till the top variant, it gets a 5-speed manual as standard and an optional four-speed torque converter gearbox. The ARAI certified mileage for the AT unit sticks to 18.76 km/l. Behind the wheel, both the SUVs are the same and will give you a good driving feel in the city.

The Urban Cruiser is expensive by Brezza by a slight margin but the good warranty package of 3 years or 1 lakh km makes it a real deal. Toyota's compact SUV rivals with the Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300.
