Toyota is all set to launch the CNG version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. What's interesting is that this might be the first mid-size SUV in the country to be offered with a factory-fitted CNG. The bookings for the same have begun from Rs 25,000. However, in this article, we want to share how the CNG vs Strong Hybrid Petrol versions of the Hyryder will compete against each other. We share the specs as well as the price comparison of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG vs Strong Hybrid Petrol.

Toyota has said in a statement that the CNG version of the Hyryder will be made available in two trims only - S and G. So we're comparing the prices of both these variants only.

As can be seen, the price difference between the CNG trims and Strong Hybrid sticks to Rs 1.88 lakh for the S trim and Rs 2.20 lakh for the G variant, respectively. The prices of Hyryder CNG are not yet out and these are the expected prices. Considering CNG trims are approximately Rs 95,000 more expensive than the petrol variants, we have listed the expected price.

Do note that the official power and peak torque figures of the Hyryder CNG are not yet out. This 1.5L petrol with CNG is used in the Maruti XL6 as well and we've taken the figures from there. We expect the power and peak torque figures of the Hyryder to be exactly the same or close to this.
As can be seen from the table, the CNG version of the Hyryder belts out 87 bhp of power with a peak torque of 121.5Nm. The mileage sticks to 26.1 km/kg. On the other hand, the strong hybrid petrol motor produces 114 bhp of power with a peak torque of 141 Nm. The ARAI-certified mileage of this sticks to 27.97 kmpl and this engine is mated to an eCVT unit. In CNG Hyryder, there's only a five-speed manual transmission on offer.

Verdict
If you are looking for a mid-size SUV that can turn out to be quite cheaper to run and does long distances quite easily then Hyryder Strong Hybrid Petrol is your go to SUV. However, if you live in the vicinity of areas where CNG is not a scarce source then we would like you to place your bet on the Hyryder CNG anyday. Not only the initial cost of this version is cheaper than the strong hybrid but running costs too will be quite less.
Note - CNG availability is still rising in India and it is not available everywhere.
