Toyota has just launched the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and it is one of the most value-for-money mid-size SUVs in the segment. It offers several first in segment features that take up on the rivals very well. In this article, we share with you the pros and cons of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Pros
Strong Hybrid Engine
The Hyryder is equipped with a strong hybrid motor. The 1.5L TNGA engine is a three-cylinder unit that pumps out a usable power and torque of 114 bhp and 122 Nm, respectively. This engine is mated to an e-CVT and the highlight is the mileage. An ARAI-certified figure of 27.97 kmpl is the talking point and it is quite good for people who have high running.
Features
Toyota Hyryder is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, head-up display and more.

All-wheel Drive Configuration
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is based on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Both these mid-size SUVs are offered with an AWD system which is also first in the segment. Sadly, this AWD is offered with the 1.5L mild hybrid motor and that too with a 5-speed manual. Still, an AWD is a first of any kind in this segment and for people who like to take off-road trails often, the Hyryder can be a good pick.
Toyota's Reliability
We all have witnessed the massive success stories of Toyota's trust in the Indian market. Right from the first-gen Fortuner and Innova to the latest models, both these vehicles are known for reliability and longevity. The same can be expected from the Hyryder too. Toyota offers a standard warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh km, whichever is at the earliest with the Hyryder.
Cons
No diesel motor
Yes, with the inclusion of a strong hybrid motor that delivers a whopping fuel economy of 27.97 kmpl, it will surely attract buyers. However, one cannot miss the joy of driving a diesel engine that offers an impressive peak torque and is joyous to drive. Sadly, there isn't a turbo petrol engine either.
No AT for AWD trims
This can be a bummer for those looking to buy the AWD versions as it is only available with 5-speed MT. There is no 6-speed AT offered with the AWD Hyryder.

Verdict
If you are in the market to buy a new mid-size SUV and looking for a change of interest like picking the petrol-hybrid option then the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is for you. It offers a mix of modern features, design and safety equipment. However, if you are someone looking to buy a diesel SUV or a performance-oriented SUV then the Hyryder can be a bit of a disappointment.
