The mid-size SUV segment in India is the one that has grown the fastest. Filled with cars like the Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, & MG Astor; this segment is deemed to expand more. Jeep made it official last year that it will bring a C-SUV in India as well as globally. The new car is spied in an R&D facility globally. The spy photo gives a rough idea of what to expect from the upcoming SUV.
As per FCA, the new C-SUV will not be a soft-roader. It will keep up with its bigger siblings like the Jeep Compass & the newly launched Jeep Meridian. This means it will come with an AWD drivetrain to ease out the gravel & off-road drives. Not just this, but, it is expected to come with hybrid technology as well.
FCA made a joint venture with the PSA group to supply the Jeep with a CMP (common modular platform). This CMP architecture is also being used by the upcoming Citroen C3; which is about to get launched in India. While the CMP is not designed for the AWD cars, Jeep is working on the modified format of the CMP to adjust the AWD. Hybrid tech will also come via the AWD way. Similar tech is already used over the Jeep Renegade SUV internationally.

It is speculated that Jeep might use the battery at the rear end. This means, the ICE will power the FWD, while the battery pack will power the RWD when needed. It surely is complicated to induce both of these techs altogether; but Jeep intends to stand apart from the segment rivals. Just like the Jeep Meridian SUV that became the first RHD unit to be sold; Jeep will make the upcoming SUV the first ever AWD in the segment.
The engine options are still not clear. Although, the newly formed JV means it can possibly use the C3-sourced 1.2-Lt turbocharged petrol engine. This engine peak out at 130 hp on tap. But for now, we do not have any clear information about the technical specs to be used. Hopefully the future will clear the new SUV attached speculations soon.
